Some Volusion-based merchants may encounter a situation where the images they have uploaded to one or more store products within their online store needs to be resized.
This could be due to the default image size not providing enough detail when viewing the product page, to meet the merchants aesthetic needs or for other reasons. This article will instruct you how to upload custom-sized images to your Volusion store products.
Getting Started
We'll assume that the product you wish to have a custom-sized image already has a product photo assigned to it. When assigning photos to a product, the Volusion store automatically formats the image file to a specific size. Here, you'll find instructions on first removing the pre-existing product photo and then uploading a custom-sized image.
Deleting the Existing Photo
In order to upload a product photo with a custom image size, you will first need to delete any pre-existing images associated with the product you will be editing.
Use the following steps to accomplish this task:
Volusion 2011
- Go to Inventory > Products.

- Click on the product code for the product you wish to edit.
- Scroll down to the Image Management section, and click the Delete Image button beneath the image you want to remove.

- On the product's settings page, click the "X" tab at the top of the product's image to remove the image from the product.

- Once the image upload controls have appeared in the product settings page, click the link marked Advanced Options.

- Here, you can use the Advanced Settings form to define the height and width of each version of the product image that Volusion will automatically generate when you upload a product photo.
- You can also check the option to create alternate view photos for your product.
- Additionally, check the option marked, "Make These My Default Sizes" to apply your custom image size settings to any future product image you will upload to your Volusion store.

- With your custom sizes configured, click the Browse button and select the product image you wish to upload.
- When finished, click the Upload button to upload the selected image file to your product (see Note 3).

With this process complete, your product will now have images assigned to it, automatically sized to the specifications you defined in the steps outlined above . If you selected the option to make these size settings your store's defaults, each additional image you upload to your store's products will automatically be sized accordingly.
Notes
- When creating custom image sizes, be aware that these settings may affect your product's vZoom image magnification effect. For the vZoom effect to remain active for a product's images, the High Resolution Zoom Image/Photo Size Large" product image must be more than 20% larger than the image size for the product's Display On Product Page/Photo Size Medium image.
- If you want to change the dimensional settings for the ‘tiny’ or ‘small’ image variants, you will not have access to those dimensions unless you delete all the images from a product record, and then follow the instructions above. If any images is already in a product record, the only dimension settings available will be Medium, Large, and Alt, but not Tiny or Small.
- When you change the dimension settings (any of them), the Update button will be displayed at the bottom of the page. It is important that you do not click on this button as this will not save the setting. You need to click on the Upload button.
