Stock Status Display Options

Volusion allows you to track a product's stock quantities by using the Stock Status field in a product's Advanced Info > Stock section. If you enter any quantity into this field (including 0 and negative quantities), each time this item is purchased your store will automatically subtract one from the Stock Status value.

If this field is left blank, however, the system considers the product to have *unlimited* stock and is therefore always in stock.

If you enter a quantity into this field and then then decide that you want to use the unlimited stock feature instead, you need to go into the product page and enter the word "NULL" in the Stock Status field. (Note this cannot be done from the All Products table: an error message is displayed if you enter "NULL" in a field in the Stock Status column).

You can use this feature with two config variables that control how the stock status displays on your storefront: Display Stock Status and Display Current Stock Quantity. You can find both at Inventory > Products > Settings > All Products Settings. Show

If you select the Display Stock Status check box:

  • "Stock Status: In Stock" displays if the Stock Status value is 1 or more.
  • "Stock Status:(Out of Stock)" displays if the Stock Status value is 0 or less.
  • Nothing displays if the Stock Status value has not been set, or has been cleared with a "null" value.

If you select the Display Current Stock Quantity check box and the Display Stock Status check box:

  • "Quantity in Stock: <#>" displays if the Stock Status value is 1 or more.
  • "Quantity in Stock:(Out of Stock)" displays if the Stock Status value is 0 or less.
  • Nothing displays if the Stock Status value has not been set, or has been cleared with a "null" value.

Nothing displays if you have selected the Display Current Stock Quantity check box, but not the Display Stock Status check box.
