Hosting Email With Volusion

Volusion gives you the option to add up to 100 email accounts to your monthly hosting plan. Each email account comes with 25GB of storage and uses a consistently-named format based on your store's domain name (for example: You can also update the number of mailboxes you pay for on a monthly basis.

Purchasing Mailboxes With a New Hosting Plan

If you're opening a new store by purchasing a hosting plan, you can select email hosting as an add-on before you check out.

Once you select a plan from our Pricing page, we'll ask you for a few details about your store and your desired hosting plan. In the Volusion Email section of the page that displays, select your desired number of email accounts from the drop-down menu:

If you don't want to add any email accounts to your plan, leave this drop-down set to NONE.

Adding Mailboxes to an Existing Hosting Plan

You can add or increase your store's email accounts without having to upgrade your hosting plan. To do so, log in to your account at and follow these steps:

  1. Under my Account, click Plans / Orders.
  2. Locate the line that shows Email Accounts (X included in plan), where X is the number of email accounts you've added to your plan in the past.
  3. Click ADD next to the current mailbox quantity.
  4. On the next page, select the number of email accounts you'd like to add to your hosting plan, then click Confirm.

Your next monthly statement will show a line item with the updated number of email accounts and pricing. If you decide you don't need as many email accounts in the future, you can follow the same process to decrease the number associated with your hosting plan.

You'll be able to configure your new mailboxes immediately after adding them to your plan. If you previously pointed your MX records to a third-party host, be sure to point them back to Volusion under my Stores > Manage DNS. Note that it may take up to an hour for new MX records to fully propagate.

Note on Email Policies

Volusion email is hosted by Rackspace, who have a zero tolerance policy against spam email (UCE - Unsolicited Commercial Email). If Rackspace feels an email account is being used for spam, it may be completely deleted by Rackspace with or without prior notice.

For further information, US-based merchants should review stipulations provided by the CAN-SPAM Act and the Rackspace Acceptable Use Policy.

Each mailbox has a storage limit of 25GB, an attachment limit of 50MB, and a send limit of 250 recipients per message in any given period of time.
