The Subcategories section on a category edit page shows any subcategories you've created within that category.
Adding a Subcategory to a Category
To create a subcategory, you'll first need to create Categories. Once your categories are ready:
- Go to Inventory > Categories.
- Hover over the category you want to add a subcategory to and click Add Subcategory.
- Enter the subcategory name in the Category Name field.
You've now added a subcategory. You can expand your categories to see their subcategories on the category edit page.
Subcategories enable you to further structure your products. Instead of having, say, 600 products in one category (for example, Shoes), you could have 12 subcategories (Heels, Boots, Flats, Sneakers, Oxfords, etc.) containing a more navigable quantity.
You can even have sub-subcategories if you like.
The way you display subcategories on the storefront category details page is configurable. You can display the category graphic or the category name, and you can display these at the top or side of the page.
